Do an early-summer Sprint. Lake Mills Sprint Tri. I'm racing. Come along for the fun.
This is mostly directed toward my Wisconsin readers. If you’re not in the area, you could still participate. Come stay with me in West Bend for a couple nights, if you want. Even if you don't come to WI, you could apply this same idea to where you live.
Do an early-summer Sprint Tri.
Lake Mills Triathlon, Sunday June 3, 2018.
Lake Mills, WI.
Let’s do it together.
I’m healthy, you’re healthy. We’re all healthy enough to do this.
You don’t know how to swim. That’s okay, you have the perfect amount of time until June 3.
12 weeks. It’s long enough to start swimming, run a bit, go to some spin classes, get a bike out of the garage. It’s short enough to focus up for the whole time, and it’s long enough to make a difference in your life and life habits.
Lake Mills Triathlon, 2014, was the first triathlon I ever did. Brother Ben did it along with me. It was friendly, exciting, memorable. We’re going back for another go. I’m trying to win the race, Ben is doing it, everybody is doing it, including you :)
12 weeks really is an excellent amount of time. If you want to train a bit, it will be 12 weeks of good habits, learning new physical and mental skills, maybe meeting some new people, maybe sleeping a little deeper, maybe food tasting a little better. If you don’t want to train, that’s maybe fine, too. Ben did that in 2014. I don’t particularly recommend it, because I think you can get more out of 12 weeks of growth than you can get from 1 day of struggle. But if you don’t want to train and you just want one memorable day, still sign up and forget about it until the week of, if you would like.
Sign up. Join the crew. It will be a great Sunday. If you’re one of the near-Milwaukee-people, it’s an easy drive over in the morning, a race, some post race glow and reflection, food and a beer for lunch, or maybe a crew dinner when we get back to Milwaukee area.
Lake Mills Triathlon. Lake Mills, WI. June 3, 2018, 7am.
400 m swim
16 mile ride
5K (3.1 mile) run
No wetsuit necessarily needed. Just goggles. Any bike will do. And walking the 5K is okay. Cracking it all out, fast and hard, is great too ;)
Let me know. Let me know if you’re in, if you might be in but have thoughts you’d like to discuss, if you think it’s stupid and you’re out, if you think it’s stupid and you’re in, whatever. Let’s hear some thoughts. Email me/comment please, let’s make a great memory and a great kick off to Summer 2018.
I’ll address some of the questions/concerns right now.
I'm not being condescending. That's what I did all year so far. I did the above walk/run workout for weeks in January and February. I’ve almost exclusively rode the stationary bike, wearing old running shoes, all winter. And it works. I’m strong like bull right now, probably the strongest I’ve been on a bike, ever. So don’t worry about the equipment or the weather.
Just do. It's that simple. I've done it and am doing it. I’ve won races, I’ve toed the line with the best in the world, and hopefully that gives my word some validity. I’m telling you that it is simple, that it is fun, that swim/bike/run/fitness makes you more joyful and loving and content. I’m there, I’m doing it, I’m living it and I am telling you that it can be a great part of your life. Give it a go, start again, now, today.
I’m serious. I really have been doing walk/run workouts and riding a spin bike all Winter.
